A Commentary on the Book of the Law
The qabalistic exegesis of the Book of the Law is a treacherous subject.
According to the Class A comment on this Book; “The study of this Book is
forbidden...”, and this statement has created controversy from the moment it
was penned, for how is the adept to fathom the mysteries of the Book without
studying it ? It is not my intention to enter into this debate at all;
rather, let the text speak for itself. I repeat the caveat found in verse
III:42: “Success is thy proof: argue not: convert not: talk not overmuch!”
The following analysis is the independent work of an adept who assumes sole
responsibility for the collection and presentation of the data contained
herein. However, it is of primary importance to keep in mind that the
solution to verse II:55,“Thou
shalt obtain the order & value of the English Alphabet; thou shalt find new symbols to attribute them
unto.”, was provided by the Prophet himself, and is
thus immune from any dispute connected with the Comment. The letters of
the English Alphabet are attributed to the various Trigrams by the Prophet
alone. Applying the key of Base Three math to decode the Trigrams provides the
numerical results set forth in this essay. The sole responsibility for
these results lies with the Prophet and his Holy Guardian Angel.
The following commentary is not meant to be
comprehensive; rather, it touches on some of the most salient features and
enigmas of the text, in order to determine what, if anything, the Trigrammaton
Qabalah has to say about them. The
Knowledge of this Book is constantly evolving.
While the data presented here will not change, the interpretation and
application of it will likely change over time.
Any
attempt at an exegesis of Liber AL has to concern itself with one primary fact:
there is a distinct difference between the Holograph manuscript, (Liber XXXI),
and the typeset edition of it known as Liber CCXX. In all cases it is presumed that the Holograph takes precedence
as the original source material.
Nevertheless, Liber CCXX represents the Prophet’s official publication
of Liber AL according to the intent of Aiwass as he understood it, and this
received text will be the benchmark of the following analysis.
According
to TEQ gematria, the complete English text of Liber CCXX has the value of
257,790. Dividing this by 10 equals
25,779, which is very close to the number of years in one complete cycle of the
Precession of the Equinoxes, (this figure is not precise, and ranges from
around 25770 to 25800). It is possible
that this TEG total for the English of Liber CCXX is a prediction of the exact
length of the cycle of precession. The
number 257,790, however, does not represent a complete accounting of Liber
CCXX, for there also appear in the text several other letters and numbers. These additions include the word qelhma, which equals 93; the letter Tzaddi, which
equals 90; the numerals 4, 11, 418, & 718, which equal 1151; and finally
the Cipher found in verse II:76.
The following is the summation of the complete text of
Liber CCXX:
257,790 = TEQ gematria value of the English letters of Liber CCXX
183 = Tzaddi & Thelema
1,151 = Numerals in text (4 + 11 + 418 + 718)
8,221 = Sum of the verse numbers (1-66, 1-79, 1-75)
351 = TEQ gematria value for the Cipher of verse 2:76
267,696 = Grand total of the entire Book of the Law
267,696 = 9 x 208 x 143
9 = Hail
208 = Nuit + Hadit + Ra-Hoor-Khuit
143 = The Book of the Law
9 = number of
numerals in the Cipher
208 = sum of the letters in the Cipher
143 = sum of the numbers in the Cipher
9 x 208 x 143 = 267,696 = grand total of Liber CCXX.
So multiplying the name of the Book by the names of the three Gods by the
number 9 gives us the total for the whole work. And these values are found in
the great Cipher. These factors of the
grand total would then add up to 360 = 143 + 208 + 9. This is symbolic of the
360 degrees of the full circle, the completeness of the Whole.
I have named this simple equation The Cipher of the
Whole. This aligns precisely with
the contents of AL 2:76
Thus the great Cipher of 2:76, which has puzzled so many for
so long, provides a simple and elegant solution to the question of which
English Alphabet gematria is valid for decoding the text of the Book of the
Law. This is by no means the only
encryption to be found in the Cipher, but it is the most relevant to the
discussion at hand. The Cipher is often
thought of as a test for any would-be English gematria. If it is a test, then
the TEG passes with flying colours.
31 and 93 are considered key numbers
of the Book of the Law. The TEG value
of the first word of the text, HAD, equals 31, while the last word of the text,
CONCEALED, equals 93. Then the Book
concludes with the words AUM.HA., which sum to 59. Taking this as a clue, one notices that verse II:59 is the only
verse in the Book containing 93 letters.
Within that verse is the second occurrence of ‘concealed’ in Liber
AL. The third and final appearance of
‘concealed’ is verse I:34. It is no
coincidence that the two verse numbers, 34 & 59, are Antigrams that add to
93. The total value of the verses numbered
34 or 59 in Liber CCXX is 9062, whose prime factors are 2 x 23 x 197. These prime factors total 222, which is the
Inverted Antigram of 93. 222 is also
the value of the words “Written and Concealed”, which appear on the last page
of the Holograph. This page has three
verse numbers written on it: 73, 74, & 75.
These also add to 222.
The total value of the three verses
in Liber CCXX where the word ‘concealed’ appears is 2727. This is a direct reference to Liber XXVII,
in which the only word that equals 93 is also the word ‘concealed’. There are only nine words in Liber CCXX with
the English value of 93, and seven of these appear only once. The only other word to appear repeatedly is
the word ‘Because’, which occurs eleven times.
The total of the verse numbers in which ‘because’ appears is 325. 325 + 93 = 418, another key number of the
Book of the Law. Generally, ‘because’
is used in a pejorative sense, but not always.
See especially chapter one, verse 59, the number that began this scenario.
Overall, the 93rd verse of Liber
CCXX is verse II:27; “There is great danger in me; for who doth not
understand these runes shall make a great miss. He shall fall down into the pit called Because, and there he
shall perish with the dogs of Reason.” This is the first
occurrence of the word ‘because’ in a negative light, and the total value of
this verse is 1665, which equals 5 x 333, or 15 x 111. Recall that 111 is the reversed Hexagram of
93.
The fact that ‘concealed’ appears in
verses 34 & 59 makes evident that the verse numbers can be a useful tool in
conjunction with this gematria, but it must be realized that here again there
is a discrepancy between the Holograph and Liber CCXX, for the original has no
verse numbers in chapter one, and all the verse and page numbers were written
in pencil, after the dictation. This
absence of verse numbers in manuscript means that the total of all the numbers
written on the sheets of the MS is 8041, which equals 11 x 731:

If the code-numbers of verse II:76
are excluded, then the total is 7898 = 11 x 718. Why should these numbers, which add to 143, be excluded? By removing the code from consideration we
can split the written numbers of the text into two groups: the page numbers are
737, which is 11 x 67. These are
incidental to the text itself. The
verses and other numbers, which are critical to the text, equal 7161, which is
11 x 651, or 77 x 93. Note that by the
TEG, ‘Written’ equals 77, while ‘Concealed’ equals 93.
We may then conclude that the
esoteric use of the extra numbers can be useful in analyzing the Holograph, but
if this is the case then we must consider the other, textual differences that
occur. First of all, the versifications
of the Stele inscriptions do not appear; they are included in verses I:14,
III:37 & III:38. By removing them,
the total of the dictated English text is 248,256. But it seems worth considering that there are two important
sections of the Holograph that do not appear in Liber CCXX, namely, the words “the unfragmentary,
non-atomic fact of my universality”, and “The shape of my star is”.
The former has already been
discussed, and the latter is important because it is not crossed out in
manuscript, but is written under the line, with a caret showing its position in
the text. The scribe, Aleister Crowley,
admits hearing this phrase and then losing the rest of the sentence, which was
written in later in the hand of the first Scarlet Woman as ‘The Five Pointed
Star with a Circle in the Middle, & the circle is Red.” But her entry makes much more sense if it is
prefaced with ‘The shape of my star is’, rather than abruptly mentioning the
‘star’ without context. These two
additions; “the unfragmentary…” and “the shape…”, add to 744, which is 8 x
93.
If 744 is added to 248,256 (the
total of the English text), the result is 249,000. 249 is the total value of verse I:39; “The word of the Law is qelhma.” This
reminds us that there are two other words in the Book of the Law; Thelema,
whose value is 93, and the Hebrew letter Tzaddi, whose value is 90. Adding these two ‘words’ gives a grand
total for the Holograph words of 249,183, which equals 297 x 839.
Examining
these factors, one finds that 297 is the value of the 11 Trigram in upper
position of a Hexagram. 839 is the 146th
prime, as well as the TEG value of verse I:46, “Nothing is a secret
key of this Law. Sixty-one the Jews
call it; I call it eight, eighty, four hundred & eighteen.” The two occurrences
of 146, as an ordinal number of the prime and as a verse number, can be taken
as a hidden reference to the Hebrew word SVP, or Sof, which has a value of 146,
and is the other ‘half’ of the concept of the Ein Sof, which is hinted at in
verse I:46, and made explicit in verse I:47, “But they have the
half: unite by thine art so that all disappear.”
The
total number of words in the Holograph is 5587. Including the extra 13 words mentioned above
makes the total 5600. This total considers the hyphenated words as single
words, and does not include the 86 ampersands, the 4 numerals, (4, 11, 418
& 718), or the Cipher of verse II:76.
Except
for the Cipher, there are 90 other parts to the Holograph transmission, giving
a total of 5690 ‘words’ in the document.
This number 5690 is a very obvious glyph for NU/56 and TZADDI/90. This is a clue that Tzaddi will help unravel
the mystery of the ‘six and fifty’ associated with the word of Nuit. Simple addition of 56 + 90 = 146, the value
of the Hebrew word SVP, as shown above.
5690 = 10 x 569. 569 is the 104th
prime, and 104 is the value of Tzaddi spelled out in full. (Tzaddi/90 + Dalet/4
+ Yod/10).
Since the additional thirteen words
all appear in chapter one, it is instructive to look at this chapter of the
manuscript in isolation. The value of
the English text, with these additions, is 83,095. Add to this the page numbers, 253, plus the numeral 11, plus 93
for qelhma, and the total of all
glyphs in this chapter is 83,452, which is 124 x 673. This total of 124 x 673
deliberately excludes the letter Tzaddi, in order to isolate that mysterious
glyph in relation to the rest of the chapter.
Analyzing these factors, 124 is the TEG value of the key words SIX AND
FIFTY, while 673 is the Hexagram having the 24 Trigram over the 25
Trigram. 24 & 25 are the letters N
& U, while verses 24 and 25 of this chapter state: “I am Nuit, and my word is six and fifty. Divide, add, multiply, and understand.” This numerical koan is at the core of the
esoteric symbolism of the Law. I will
show below how it is connected with the letter Tzaddi.
Although these two verses can
sustain a wide variety of interpretations, there is one simple answer, which
will become part of the solution to the most cryptic phrases in chapter
one. In verse I:24, Nuit states that
her word is “six and fifty” so let us presume that these are the numbers 6
& 50.
Divide them by reducing them
to their proper divisors: 6 = 1, 2, 3, 6: 50 = 1, 2, 5, 10, 25, 50.
Add the divisors; they
equal 12 and 93.
Multiply these together; the
result is 1116.
Now all that remains
is to understand.
Verses 1:46-47 state: “Nothing is a secret key of this Law.
Sixty-one the Jews call it; I call it eight, eighty, four hundred &
eighteen. But they have the half. Unite by thine art so that all disappear.” The exoteric
interpretation is that ‘Nothing’ is explained by the number 61 for the Hebrew
word AIN, (which means ‘not’); and 8, 80, 418, which are the values of the
Hebrew letters Cheth (8), Peh (80), and Cheth spelled in full as ChITh
(418). These three numbers total 506. Uniting these two halves gives 61 + 506 =
567. It is important to note that 567
is the value of the Aquarius Trigram in upper position.
In contrast to the above, an
esoteric interpretation of the verse interprets the ‘eight’ as the VIII Atu of
the Tarot, and the ‘eighteen’ as the XVIII Atu. The phrase thus becomes ‘VIII, 80, 400 & XVIII’, which
corresponds to the Hebrew letters Lamed, Peh, Tau, & Qoph. The total value of these four letters is
610. Again, uniting the two halves of
the equation gives 61 + 610 = 671. 671
is the value of the Hebrew word TORAh, or Law, so that this interpretation of
‘Nothing’ refers to the Law, as stipulated in the verse.
But the key is that the two
interpretations of the number words coincide.
Relating the given numbers to the Tarot trumps, the Key numbers are VII,
XVI, & VII in the exoteric interpretation, and VIII, XVI, XXI, & XVIII
in the esoteric interpretation. The
Keys thus total 93, while the sum of the letter-values is 506 + 610 = 1116, or
12 x 93.
In
addition, the seven Hebrew letters involved, when spelled in full, equal 4 x
418. In the exoteric sense of Nothing,
Cheth = 418, Peh = 85, and 418 again is Cheth in full. In the esoteric sense of Nothing, Lamed =
74, Peh = 85, Tau = 406, and Qoph = 186.
The seven letters in full equal 1672, which equals 4 x 418.

So
the sum of the two interpretations, 610 + 506 = 1116, is the answer to the
riddle about Nuit’s word that was given in verses I:24 & I:25. The difference of the two versions,
610 - 506 = 104, is the value of Tzaddi spelled in full. Tzaddi is the 18th letter of the Hebrew
Alphabet, and its appearance in the Book of the Law is on page 18 of the first
chapter of the Holograph. In verse
I:46, the word ‘eighteen’ comes after the ampersand, and it is the presence or
absence of this sign which delineates between the obvious and the hidden meanings
of the verse.
The
number-words which occur before the ampersand share an 8 to 1 ratio between
them; 61 x 8 = 488 = 8 + 80 + 400.
Even the letters of the Hebrew word AIN, which is the referent for the
word ‘sixty-one’, can be multiplied individually to get this exact result: Alef
= 1, Yod = 10, Nun = 50. 1 x 8 = 8; 10
x 8 = 80; 50 x 8 = 400. Multiplying in
this way results in the value described by the three number-words mentioned
before the ampersand. This process
uncovers a formula in the text: 8X + 18.
One can apply this formula to the very words that began this scenario,
the ‘six and fifty’. (8 x 56) + 18 =
448 + 18 = 466 = NUIT, spelled in Hebrew as Nun Vav Yod Tau. This continues the reciprocal link between
verses 24, 25 & 46 of chapter one.
There
is another formula in this verse that is revealed by the gematria of two of the
key words. By TEG:
NOTHING
= 81:
SIXTY-ONE
= 95.
(81
+ 95) + (8 x 80 x 418) = 176 + 267,520 = 267,696 = grand total of the contents
of Liber CCXX.
So
by using the gematria of the number words in the first half of the verse, and
the numerical values of the number words in the second half of the verse, the
grand total of the entire Law can be discovered.
The letter Tzaddi occurs as a hastily drawn
Hebrew glyph in the text of verse I:57; “All these old letters of my Book are aright; but Tzaddi is not the Star.” Tzaddi spelled in full equals 104, and
Tzaddi is the 104th letter on page 18.
The verse states that Tzaddi is ‘not the Star’, and this phrase has a
TEG value of 111. Reading from right to
left, and from top to bottom of the sheet, (as instructed in verse III:73), the
111th letter on the page is the Tzaddi glyph. Notice that the value of the letter Tzaddi
is 90, but the value of the phrase determining what Tzaddi is (not) equals
111. The difference is 21, the value of
the Aquarius Trigram. Tzaddi is
attributed to the XVII Atu, the Star, or at least it was when the Book of the
Law was written, and this is the Atu of Aquarius.
Here
the intersection with Trigrammaton occurs, for just as Tzaddi is the 18th
letter of the Hebrew Alef-bet, so 21 is the 18th Trigram in the
sequence of Liber XXVII. Thus adding
together the Trigram and the Hebrew letter attributed to Aquarius creates the
sum of 111. But also of note is that
when the 21 Trigram occurs in the upper position of a hexagram, its value is
567, the same value as the sum of the number-words in verse I:46. This indicates that the sign of Aquarius is
somehow connected to the idea of nothing, which Nuit states is “a secret key of this Law.”
The sentence in verse I:57 has stirred much debate as to its
meaning. The Prophet understood it to
mean that Tzaddi was ‘not (attributed to) the Star’, but to some other Tarot
trump. But a much simpler answer is
that Tzaddi is not ‘the Star’, because the Star trump needs to be renamed. In fact, the name is plainly given: Tzaddi
is not, (the Star). Both ‘not’
and ‘Star’ equal 43 in English, thus they sum to 86, which is the TEG value of
the word ‘eighteen’, whose importance has already been noted.
If
Tzaddi’s attribution remains with the XVII Atu, as it should, then it is linked
back to the Aquarius Trigram symbolized in the number 567. If this Atu name is changed to ‘Nothing’,
then verse I:46 becomes more understandable.
‘Nothing’, i.e., Atu XVII, is a secret key of this Law. Technically, the title of this Law is ‘The
Book of the Law’, and the TEG value of this title is 143. If the Law, 143, is then united ‘by thine art’
with the Nothing, or 567, then the result is 143 x 567 = 81,081. With the Zero as the center point, this
doubles the number 81, which is the value of the word ‘Nothing’ in
English. The prime factors of 81,081 =
3 x 3 x 3 x 3 x 7 x 11 x 13. These seven
factors sum to 43, the value of the word NOT.
The
number 567 is also equal to 7 x 81. 7
is the value of the word ALL, and 81 is the value of the word NOTHING. Thus all times nothing = 567. These two factors can be seen, both openly
and hidden, in the tenth verse of Liber Trigrammaton. This verse is headed by the 7 Trigram, and ends with the 21
Trigram:

There are several remarkable features
of this verse. The TEG value of the
English words is 1209, exactly the same value found in verse I:46; 1116 for the
two interpretations, and 93 for the Tarot Keys of the letters. 1116 + 93 = 1209. This verse contains 111 letters, while ‘not the Star’ has a
value of 111. The verse begins with the
7 Trigram, and thus represents 7, while the verse ends with the 21 Trigram,
representing the Aquarius Atu, which has been renamed ‘Nothing’ in accordance
with the Law. Multiplying the 7 by the
gematria value of Nothing, 81, results in 567.
The number 111 is not only the number
of words in this verse, but also the TEG value of the term ‘Left-hand
Path’. This is the path pursued by
these Brothers, and it should not be assumed that it is the ‘wrong’ path. The Left-hand Path refers to the Vama Marg,
the Tantric practice of employing a priestess to embody the Goddess in rites of
sexual magick. One will note the
iconography of the Brothers Atu, which depicts an alchemical marriage. The verse states that the brothers were
‘confusing the symbols’. This does not
mean that they mistook the symbols, but that they fused them together. The Brothers then went on to conceal their
‘horror’ (in this symbol). The word
‘horror’ occurs in the verse accompanying the 12 Trigram, which is called ‘the
Horror of Time’. This Trigram is
attributed to Sagittarius, and thus the XIV Atu, called Art. This Atu is the companion to the Brothers
Atu, and depicts another, opposite, alchemical fusion. Thus the Art Atu was concealed within the
Brothers Atu. In Liber AL verse II:70,
Thelemites are urged to drink by the “eight and ninety rules of art.” The word Brothers has a TEG value of 98, and
Art is the name of its companion Atu.
The Brothers and Art Atus are VI and XIV. These sum to XX, the Key of the Aeon
Atu. Crowley designed this card to
depict the Stele of Revealing.
Referring to this Stele, Nuit says: “With the God &
the Adorer I am nothing: they do not see me.” In his Commentary, Crowley
notes this sentence “refers to the actual picture on the Stele.”
The names of the key figures in this sentence, God, Adorer, and
nothing, add to 204. 204 is the
Antigram of 156. Contrast this with
Hadit’s statement in the 81st verse of the Law, (81 = Nothing), that
“I am perfect, being Not” ; ‘I am perfect’
equals 93, while ‘being Not’ equals 111.
Hexagram 93 is the reversed Hexagram of 111, and they add together to
equal 204. Hadit as 204 is then the
fourth figure on the Stele, the winged disk, and his declaration makes him
numerically identical to the other figures.

Hadit continues: “and my number is nine by the fools, but with the just I am eight, and
one in eight: Which is vital for I am none indeed.” The TEG values of the key words are: ‘nine’ =
61, ‘eight’ = 36, ‘one in eight’ = 107. These three words also add to 204.
Nine + eight + one in eight = I am perfect,
being Not = 204.
This part of the verse begins a cryptic
set of references to the name of Hadit, and the numbers to be associated with him. He begins by saying that the fools consider
his number to be 9. This is the value
of the letters He & Dalet, 5 & 4.
This is a perfectly acceptable way to spell the name HaD. By extension, 9 as a single letter is Tet,
which means a snake, and Hadit later claims that he is the secret serpent. The letter Tet, spelled in full, is TITh =
419. This is his enumeration by the
‘fools’.
But with the ‘just’, Hadit is 8, and 1 in
8. He emphasizes that this is the
‘correct’ version of his name by continuing, “The Empress and the King are not of me, for there is a further secret.
I am The Empress & the Hierophant. Thus eleven, as my bride is eleven.”
His name is not spelled He/Dalet, for these
are the letters of the King and the Empress Atus of the Tarot. Rather it is spelled Vav/Dalet, for these
are the letters of the Hierophant and Empress Atus. The Keys of these Atus are V & III, thus making VIII. This is the ‘eight’ he refers to, for VIII
is the key number of Justice in the Tarot, and “with the just” Hadit is VIII.
At the same time, Hadit is “one in eight”
because to complete the spelling of his name, one must insert the letter Alef =
1, in between the V and III Atus. This
makes the spelling VAD, Vav Alef Dalet.
The key numbers are V + 0 + III = VIII.
The sum of the three letters is eleven, as specified in the verse.
Concurrent with this explication of his name,
there is a further secret revealed about Had.
He is eight, thus VIII. And the
letter of this Atu is Lamed, with a value of 30. He is one in eight because he combines the Alef/1 with this
Lamed, to make the word LA, which means ‘Not’.
The value of this word is 31.
The TEG value of the name Had = 31.
So the letters of the three Tarot trumps spell his name VAD = 11, but
the esoteric use of the key numbers identifies him as LA = 31.
The third layer of meaning in this verse is
that Had is identified with the ‘eight’ as the letter Cheth, spelled in full,
whose value is 418. This coincides with
the value of the word Abrahadabra, and this word explains had as ‘one in
eight’, for he is the center of the word, surrounded by eight other
letters. Thus he is eleven, as
specified in the verse.
However, we were told that his name is spelled
VAD, and inserting this into the center of the word makes it Abravadabra
instead, with a value of 419, which coincidses with the value of the letter Tet
spelled in full. Tet is attributed to
the Lust Atu, whose number is XI. Thus
he is eleven, as specified in the verse.
The word Abrahadabra appears three times in
the Law, all in chapter three. In verse
one, it is misspelled in manuscript, which is odd, since the scribe was already
familiar with the word. It is either
spelled Abraahadabra, or possibly Ahaahadabra.
The former spelling would make it equal 419 in Hebrew, and thus be
equivalent to the letter Tet spelled in full, as above. The addition of the
letter A makes this verse total 358 by the TEG values. 358 is the reversed Hexagram of 418, which
is the normal value of the word Abrahadabra.
358 is also the Hebrew value of the word NChSh, or Nechesh, which means
serpent, (specifically, the serpent who tempted Eve in the Garden of Eden), and
hadit identifies himself with the secret serpent. Thus by the addition of one letter, a relationship is formed
between the Serpent/Tet/9/419 of Abraahadabra and the 418 of Abrahdabra.
The three occurrences of Abrahadabra in the Law are in chapter
three, verse 1, 47, and 75. 1 + 47 + 75
= 123, the TEG value of “Do what thou wilt”.
These verses are the 146th, the 192nd, and the 220th overall. 146 + 192
+ 220 = 558, which is 6 x 93. The word
appears on pages 1, 16, and 22 of the chapter.
1 + 16 + 22 = 38. 38 x 11 =
418. Also, Crowley notes that
Abrahadabra is alluded to in verse I:20: “The key of the
rituals is in the secret word which I have given unto him.” This verse equals 595, which is 5 x
119. 119 is the value of Abrahadabra in
English.
Since the number 418 is of such
importance, it is worth considering its numerical characteristics. The factors of 418 are 1, 2, 11, 19, 22, 38,
209, & 418. The first six factors
equal 93, representing Love as agaph. Adding 209 to these gives 302, the TEG value
of “Do what thou wilt
shall be the whole of the Law.” Completing this with 418, the factors total
720. The Antigram of 720 is 360,
representing the circle; thus 720 represents two circles, the vesica piscis,
the union of the microcosm and the macrocosm.
Summing
the paired factors of 418 creates the following Hebrew words:

The number 418 appears once in the
Law, in verse II:78. The sentence in
question is: “They shall worship thy
name, foursquare, mystic, wonderful, the number of the man; and the name of thy
house 418.” The phrase “the number of the man” indicates
666 as the value of the name of the Beast in the Book of Revelation. The Greek title ‘To Mega Therion’ equals
666, and means ‘the Great Beast’.
Crowley also spelled ‘Therion’ in Hebrew so that it would equal 666:
Tau/Resh/Yod/Vav/Nun. As it happens,
the word ‘Beast’ equals 62 by TEG values, and 62 is the reversed Hexagram of
666. Thus the title ‘Beast 666’
indicates a certain Hexagram in its normal and inverted states:

The name of the beast, Therion, as
666, is described in the verse. It is ‘foursquare’
because all of the cells of the 6 x 6 magic square of the Sun add up to
666. It is ‘mystic’ because 666 is the
‘mystic number’ of 36, i.e., it is the sum of the numbers from 1 to 36. The name is ‘wonderful’ because the Hebrew
word PLA means ‘wonder’; its value is 111, the sum of any row or column in the
magic square of the Sun. Note that this
word PLA is the reversal of the letters ALP, which is the letter Alef spelled
in full. It is perhaps for this reason
that the word PLA is a title of Kether, the first Sefira on the Tree of Life,
as Alef is the first letter. It is said
in verse I:48 that “My
prophet is a fool with his one, one, one;”
There are a number of references to
the prophet Aleister Crowley in the Book of the Law. The first reference occurs in verse I:5, where he is called the “warrior lord of Thebes”. By TEG values, this title equals 208, which
is also the sum of the words ‘hiding’ & ‘manifestation’ (61 + 147), the
complementary words from the first verse of chapters 1 and 2. 208 is also the English value of the three
names: Nuit, Hadit, & Ra-Hoor-Khuit.
Most importantly, 208 is one of only three Hexagrams which, when added to its Antigra
