A TQ Commentary on Liber 813

Do what thou wilt shall be the whole of the Law

> Liber DCCCXIII vel ARARITA sub figura DLXX

ARARITA is of course a Notarikon in Hebrew. Perhaps there should be one in English as well. One approach, limited to words found in Liber 813, is this Trigrammaton English Gematria:

    7 = All

113 = Reflections

  32 = Are

111 = Resolved

  24 = In

  25 = The

  54 = Adept

total = 366.

Also, if we are allowed to then add the capitals of the Notarikon:

ARARITA = 52. 366 + 52 = 418.

It's curious that a Liber whose title is a number, should be classified under another number. This Book is called DCCCXIII for the obvious reason that it is the value of ARARITA, but why exactly is it 'sub figura DLXX'?

570 = even the word 418

One thing I discovered was that if we sum the two numbers involved, we get 813 + 570 = 1383 = Greek TRIGWNON = Triangle.

This could well be symbolic of the three epithets of God: "One is thy Beginning, One is Thy Spirit, Thy Permutation One."

1383 = 3 x 461. 461 = Greek GYNH = Woman.

So we can multiply Woman by 3 and get Triangle, a very neat arrangement.

But more importantly ;

1383 = 1220020. The inverse septagram of this is 0200221 = 511.

This is significant since it was for 511 times nightly that the unity of God was proclaimed.

1383 = I was not deceived by anything of all these things. For I expanded it by my subtlety into Twelve Rays of the Crown. And these twelve rays were One.

Liber 813 vel ARARITA

The number of this Book is the sum of four different antigram pairs:

271 & 542; 272 & 541; 298 & 515; 299 & 514.

Below is one example of gematria for each pair.

271 = a factor infinite & unknown

542 = Behold! It is revealed by Aiwass the minister of Hoor-paar kraat

272 = four hundred & eighteen

541 = the rituals of the old time are black. Let the evil ones be cast away;

(Apparently, since Abrahadabra is 'the key of the rituals', the good ones that are purged by the prophet will relate to it).

298 = awake the lust & worship of the snake

515 = It is a lie, this folly against self. the exposure of innocence is a lie.

299 = thy house 418

514 = Abrahadabra! the reward of Ra Hoor

(Although 'Khut' is left off here, it is worthwhile to note that Crowley spelled RA HOOR so as to equal 418)

There are numerous other examples in TQ, but here I focused on quotations from Liber AL.

> I ALEPH

“The text is preceded by Surah 112 in Arabic: which might be phonetically rendered "Qul huwa Allahu achad; Allahu assamad; Lam yalid walam yulad; Walam yakun lahu kufuwan achad", and may be translated by Chapter III,0.”

The text of the Arabic totals 1002.

There are 8 pairs of Antigrams which sum to 1002. The root-pair of this group is, as usual, the pair that displays all Tao and Yang lines on one of the hexagrams, and all Tao and Yin lines on the other. This structure makes the lower of the two values equal to the difference between them. In this case, the root-pair is:

668 = 220202

334 = 110101.

668 = Here is Nothing under its three forms. It is not, yet informeth all things.

334 = It shall swallow up that lesser darkness. (Liber VII 7:30)

The Arabic can be translated by verse 3:0; this verse also contains the sentence "Nothing shall stand before His face." This can easily be interpreted as 'Nothing shall be a veil before his face", in addition to a more strict reading of 'Nothing can be in a position face to face with God', which sounds similar to the Biblical, "no man shall see my face and live", (or whatever the exact quote is).

The value of the Arabic sura is 1002. Adding to this the numeral 418 in the text gives us 1420. Adding the TQ gematria of the entire chapter, 13,903, brings the full total of this chapter to 15,323 = 7 x 2189 = prime factors 7 * 11 * 199.

Being divisble by seven relates this total to the seven gods of the planets which are mentioned in verses 3 - 9.

Being divisble by 11 relates to the elevenfold word, 418.

Its hard to find words with small totals like 7 and 11, so I have to take these as emblematic of two of the themes of the chapter.

15,323 = 77 x 199

  77 = the rays

199 = the Word Abrahadabra.

Since this Book is all about combining opposites, then the antigrams of the above factors are fair game. These are 43 and 155.

  43 = Star

155 = Circumference.

These explain the One (the star), in the center of the twelve rays of the Crown, (the circumference).

It seems possible that these 98 verses constitute the 'eight and ninety rules of art', i.e., practical qabalah/alchemy. If so, it may turn out that Atu XIV, called ART, proves to be important in the application of the formulas contained herein.

Can this verse from the Qu’ran be presumed to be class A? I think not, only because by accepting it as such, we are on the slippery slope of accepting the Koran as divinely inspired, and this flies in the face of Horus' attack on Mohammed in Liber AL.  I think it more appropriate to consider this quotation as: (1) the inspiration for writing a Holy Book expanding on its theme, or (2), a classical quotation as one might find at the beginning of any number of literary works.

It seems too obvious to mention that this Book deals with the Sefirot in a linear progression from Ain Sof down to Malkut. The question then arises as to what the verses from 11 to 13 are referencing. Could it be that verse 11 throws us back into Da'ath, and 12 & 13 are the results of that operation?

The valuation of the non-English text of Liber 813:

Arabic sura = 1002 = initial quote of the Book

ARARITA = 813 = initial letters of the 7 chapters

OU MH = 518 = Crowley’s motto as Exempt Adept

QDSh = 404 = Hebrew ‘holiness’, the “holy and formless fire”

Sum of non-English letters = 2737 = 7 x 391.

391 = 112111, the 14 trigram over the 13 trigram.  See above.

The sum of all the verse numbers of the book is 637.

637  = the Luna Trigram over the Sol Trigram = 212121.

This symbolizes the combination of opposites.

637 = even unto the vision of the Fool in his folly that chanted the word Ararita

The number 418 appears seven times, occurring in verse number 11 in each of the seven chapters.

The sum of the English words of these seven verses is 5614.

Adding the sum of the verse numbers, we get:  77 + 5614 = 5691.

5691 = 7 x 813, the number of the Book, multiplied by the number of chapters!

> 0. O my God! One is Thy Beginning! One is Thy Spirit, and Thy

> Permutation One!

The initial phrase of the Book is:

O my God! = 93.

The totality of this verse equals 709 = the sum of the 7 Hebrew Planetary letters.  This is important, at least in chapter One, since the Sefirot are described according to the mythological beings for whom the Planets are named.

709 has the base 3 structure 222021 = the 26 trigram over the 7 trigram.

This might be construed as: the 26 = IHVH expressed in the 7 = the Planets. Note this analysis is applicable to the Hebrew gematria, regardless of the value of this verse in English.

Since Crowley recommends comparing the chapters verse-for verse, I think its fair to jump ahead and calculate the value of all seven verses numbered 0; this total is 9383, (including 404 for QDSh).

9383 = 11 x 853.

853 = Greek PURGOS = Tower, a translation of the XVI Atu.

853 = I am the Hawk-Headed Lord of Silence & of Strength. My nemyss shrouds the night-blue sky.

So both of these references point to a Martial interpretation.

In the interests of English gematria, it might be fair to simply enumerate the English of the 0 verses, and leave out the QDSH. This reduces the total of the seven verses to 8979.

8979 = 41 x 219.

219 = One is Thy Beginning!

Note that chapter 3, verse 1 states that the affirmation of His unity was cried aloud for 'one and forty days', so that we have a clear reference to the number 41 in the text, a number that does not appear to be of great significance elsewhere; it may or may not encode the Alef/Mem pairing, two of the three Elemental letters.

But getting back to the actual Ararita translation, if we subtract 93 from 709, the gematria of the main part of the verse = 616 = 11 x 56, two numbers that are of great importance in the qabalah of AL.

616 is the doubled-Trigram of 22, with this structure: 211211.

The 22 Trigram is attributed to Juppiter, and thus it also references the Fortune Atu of the Tarot.  The Wheel that is the main feature of this Atu may be considered the circumference, and thus Nuit.

A circle whose circumference is 616, has a diameter of 196.  This makes the radius 98, and there are 98 verses in this Holy Book.

So after an introductory note that sums to 93, the English translation of the Arabic sura gives us an exact value for a circle whose radius is the number of verses in the Book.  An excellent beginning indeed.

98 = Nuit + Hadit

> 1. Let me extol Thy perfections before men.

extol = 39; it might be presumed that to extol is to send forth the emanations of the unity of the Ain sof, starting with Kether, since extol means, literally, to 'lift out'.

> 2. In the Image of a Sixfold Star that flameth across the Vault inane, let me re-veil Thy perfections.

Verse one referred to verse 0; verse 2 refers to verses 3 to 9; I agree with Frater AMO that this refers to the hexagram of the planets, as might be seen on the Six of Disks card.

> 3. Thou hast appeared unto me as an aged God, a venerable God, the Lord of Time, bearing a sharp sickle.

This is obviously a Saturn reference. I could do a gematria analysis of the verse, but whatever the value, the meaning still refers to Saturn. With that in mind, the total of the verse = 900 = Tzaddi final, thus by implication Tzaddi, thus Aquarius, ruled by Saturn, (in the old days anyway; its an open question as to whether Ouranos and Neptune are referred to in this, or any other, Holy Book).

> 4. Thou hast appeared unto me as a jocund and ruddy God, full of Majesty, a King, a Father in his prime. = 938

Thou didst bear the sceptre of the Universe, crowned with the Wheel of the Spirit. = 703

703 = His weapons fulfil the wheel; and on What Axle that turneth is not known unto him. (I:11)

Now both of these gematria equivalents mention the Wheel, which I presume to be the ROTA, the Tarot. Since this verse is clearly Jovian in nature, (thus the Fortune Atu), it is of significance that the Juppiter trigram is 22, the number of Tarot Trumps.

> 10. But I was deceived by none of these. All these I cast aside,

> crying: Begone! So that all these faded from my vision.

After several verses based on  the mythology of the planets of the Sefirot, we come to the last sefira, Malkhut.  There is no planetary mythology in Malkhut, apparently. Note the relation here to Liber Trigrammaton: Crowley places the 26 trigram on this Sefira: it has no 'sacred' planet attributed to it, neither does it have a letter of the alphabet.

> 11. Also I welded together the Flaming Star and the Sixfold Star in the forge of my soul, and behold! a new star 418 that is above all these.

Perhaps an occasion to use the Transitional Triads again, to see what happens when combining the two stars.

Flaming Star = 117 = Heru-pa-kraath

 Sixfold Star = 110 = Ra-Hoor-Khuit

   Beginning = 127 = Scarlet Woman

117 = 011100

110 = 011002

127 = 011201

This makes an elegant Triad; the transition between the two

forms of Heru-ra-ha is the Scarlet Woman. Since she is an avatar of

Nuit, we essentially get all three gods of the Book of the Law in one

triad.

Now obviously the resulting 11-pointed star, if I may call it that,

relates to Abrahadabra, since the text calls it "a new star 418."

a new star = 93

I think this is excellent gematria justification for the procedure outlined in chapter 3 about crying aloud the affirmation 511 times nightly, for obviously 511 = 93 + 418 = a new star 418.

> 12. Yet even so was I not deceived; for the crown hath twelve rays.

But apparently this eleven-pointedness is not good enough for the adept. He says he is still not deceived, even by this beautiful result, because he knows the crown has 12 rays, NOT eleven. It seems that verse 11 of every chapter deals with the beauty of 11 that transcends the 10, the Tree. But then even this must be transcended; the 11 has to continue to the 12 to fulfill the Crown.

I take this to mean that the formula of Abrahadabra, being the key of the rituals, is an intermediate formula used to cross the abyss. In this regard it is important that the Path of ChIT = 8 = 418 = Chariot, is one of the paths connecting the Supernals to the lower Tree.

Another, more controversial conclusion, or at least speculation, is that an 11-based formula such as the EQ-11 qabalah, might be a tool for work specific to the abyss and its crossing, (which would be

vitally important merely for that), but that this formula must be superseded by a 13-based qabalah such as we find plainly revealed in Liber Trigrammaton. This is the way to bridge the 'theoretical' qabalah of Liber XXVII, with the 'practical' qabalah of Liber Ararita.

The Antigram pairs differ by 13 different numbers:

  1 &   2   1

  5 &   7   2

  3 &   6   3

  4 &   8   4

17 & 22   5

15 & 21   6

16 & 23   7

11 & 19   8

  9 & 18   9

10 & 20 10

14 & 25 11

12 & 24 12

13 & 26 13

One obvious way to create a 1-into-12 scheme here is to specify a pair of trigrams as representative of the Crown.

Since the 0 trigram has no antigram, (or is its own antigram), it obviously correlates with the verses numbered 0 in the text. The 13 verses that follow are then related to the various antigram pairs. But in the text of verse 13 we find the resolution of the antinomies postulated in the rest of the text; here is the recurring phrase that 'these twelve rays are one.'

So the text indicates that the Unity is found again in the 13; that being the case, the pair that differs by 13 should be considered as the 'Crown', of which the other twelve antigram pairs are the rays.

This would mean that the pure Tao, the pure Yang, and the pure Yin trigrams be removed from the sequence.  They represent the first, middle, and last of the numbers from 0 to 26.

As it turns out, removing the pair of 13/26 makes for a simple and

elegant distribution of the twelve rays on the circle of the Zodiac;

The Ararita Arrangement:

  1/  2   1 E Gemini

  5/  7   2 Z Cancer

  3/  6   3 E  Libra

  4/  8   4 Z  Virgo

17/22   5    P  Leo

15/21   6    Z  Scorpio

16/23   7    P  Sagittarius

11/19   8    Z  Capricorn

  9/18   9   E  Aquarius

10/20 10     Z  Pisces

14/25 11     P  Aries

12/24 12     Z  Taurus

Decimal value of antigram pairs; difference between the trigrams;

P = No-Tao trigrams; Z = 1-Tao trigrams; E = 2-Tao trigrams:

It will be seen that all the Fire signs are aligned with trigrams of no Tao lines; all the Air signs represent the trigrams with 2 Tao lines, and the Earth and Water signs represent the trigrams with 1 Tao line.

This schema is only possible because of the switching of the Leo and Libra trigrams, thus putting the signs in the order they appear in the Book of Thoth Tarot.

Obviously, this diagram needs to be drawn in a circle.

This is not to say that no other layout is possible, but there appears to be none that can keep the Zodiac in its natural order, *and* align the Elements of the signs with the trigrams and their Tao-count.

>13. And these twelve rays are one. = 302

302 = Do what thou wilt shall be the whole of the Law.

Since we have chosen a pair of antigrams to be the Crown, if we were to remove any hexagram that contains either the 0, 13, or 26 trigrams in it, then out of the 729 possible hexagrams, we will have to remove 153 of them.

The number 153 has a lore all its own, ever since the story about the Apostles pulling 153 fish out of the Sea of Galilee, (which is not unlike what is being done here, actually).

729 - 153 = 576 = 24 x 24.  The antigram of 576 is 423. They are the one and only pair of antigrams that differ by ... 153.

This immediately suggests that it is possible to make a 24 x 24 Kamea using all hexagrams that do not contain the Zero, the 13, or the 26 trigrams.  We can then calculate that the 24 x 24 Kamea, using only hexagrams that have no Zero, 13 or 26 trigrams, is going to have a total of 219,024.

219,024 = 36 * 36 * 13 * 13

219,024 = 1296 * 169

I was hoping that 169 would make an appearance in this 13 - based qabalah, and so it has. Also of great importance is that there are 1296 different English words in the Book of the Law.

And of course 1296 is intimately related to the Zodiac circle, as there are 1,296,000 arc-seconds in a circle, etc.

The magic sum of this proposed kamea would be 9,126 = 54 x 169

Going back to the 153 leftover hexagrams, these could constitute a 3 x 3 Kamea, made up of the nine hexagrams which contain two of the three removed trigrams, (0/13; 0/26 0/0; 26/0; 26/13; 26/12; 13/0; 13/26; 13/13). This leaves 144 hexagrams, with which to make a third, 12 x 12 Kamea, of all other hexagrams that contain a Zero, Sun, or Moon.

So 729 = 9 + 144 + 576 = (3 * 3) + (12 * 12) + (24 * 24)

The 12 x 12 Kamea would have a total value of 43,056; this would make the Magic Sum equal 3,588 = 23 x 156. 23 is the Luna trigram, 156 is Babalon.

> II RESH

The phrase that is repeated at the end of the verses is interesting:

I saw thee in these = 143 = the Twelve Rays

The one 'character' that is directly related to 143 is 'the ravens of death' = 193 = the antigram of 143.

> 11. For mine was the keyword to the Closed Palace 418 and mine the reins of the Chariot of the Sphinxes, black and white. But I was not deceived by anything of all these things.

the Closed Palace = 119 = Abrahadabra

the Chariot of the Sphinxes black and white = 325 = sum 0 to 25 = sum of the TQ alphabet.

The Sphinxes are the Yin and Yang, the Chariot and/or the Graal is the Tao. Chariot = 43 = Not, Time, Star, etc.

> 13. And these twelve rays were One. = 318 = Greek HLIOS = Sun.

> III ALEPH

>

> 0. Say thou that He God is one; God is the Everlasting One; nor hath He any Equal, or any Son, or any Companion. Nothing shall stand before His face.

Capitals of this verse = 123 = Do what thou wilt.

> 1. Even for five hundred and eleven times nightly for one and forty days did I cry aloud unto the Lord the affirmation of His Unity.

This is as good a place as any for the Transitional Triad Method.

511 = 200221

  41 = 001112

297 = 102000

The result is the 11 trigram over the Zero. Only one verse in the Holy Books has this value, Liber VII 4:47;

297 = If I number them, they are One.

Note the referent in this verse from Liber VII is to the multitude of favours of God, the ten in the twenty-two directions, etc. This is very apropos of the verse in question.

> 2. Also did I glorify His wisdom, whereby He made the worlds.

Wisdom = Chokmah. As for Crowley’s suggestion that 73 x 7 represents the 'Chokmah day', it is interesting that the Mayan calendar counts in multiples of 73 days, to keep track of Venus, among other things. 5 x 73 = 365

> 3. Yea, I praised Him for His intelligible essence, whereby the universe became light.

>

> 4. I did thank Him for His manifold mercy; I did worship His magnificence and majesty.

>

> 5. I trembled before His might.

>

> 6. I delighted in the Harmony and Beauty of His Essence.

Notice that it isn't until Tiferet that the English versions of the Hebrew names of the Sefirot begin to be capitalized.

> 7. In His Victory I pursued His enemies; yea I drave them down the steep; I thundered after them into the utmost abyss; yea, therein I partook of the glory of my Lord.

> 8. His Splendour shone upon me; I adored His adorable splendour.

>

> 9. I rested myself, admiring the Stability of Him, how the shaking of His Universe, the dissolution of all things, should move Him not.

> 10. Yea, verily, I the Lord Viceregent of His Kingdom, I, Adonai, who speak unto my servant V.V.V.V.V. did rule and govern in His place.

So we have the following titles of the Sefirot:

  2. wisdom = 77

  3. intelligible essence = 93 + 95 = 188

  4. mercy = 68

  5. might = 44

  6. Beauty = 90

  7. Victory = 75

  8. Splendour = 129

  9. Stability = 77

10. Kingdom = 106

Total = 854 = Resolve me the wonder of it all into the figure of a gaunt swift camel striding over the sand. (VII 7:22)

This verse refers to the path of Gimel, the only path that directly approaches Keter from below the Supernals. I have deliberately left out the value of this name to show the result, for by adding the word for the name of the 1st Sefira, Unity = 76, the final total is 930 = 93 x 10, the pure Will of the 10 Sefirot.

> 11. Yet also did I formulate the word of double power in the Voice of the Master, even the word 418.

the word of double power in the Voice of the Master = 463

463 = sum of the Hebrew letters on the paths of the Middle Pillar.

> 12. And all these things deceived me not, for I expanded them by my subtlety into the Twelve Rays of the Crown.

Crown = 58 = Nuit.

> 13. And these twelve rays were One.

Liber Ararita has a total of 1763 words

This number proves to be a key linking the theoretical and practical qabalahs of XXVII and DCCCXIII, as well as CCXX.

1763 = 41 x 43 = the 13th prime number multiplied by the 14th prime number. (Neither I, nor most mathematicians, consider 1 to be a prime number).

13 and 14 are intimately related to Liber Ararita, for its verses are numbered from 0 to 13. I have already discussed at length the significance of the 13 antigram pairs, and the Neutral Zero that formulates them all. This number 1763 is a way of symbolizing that interaction, between the 13 and the 14. 13 is also the middle number in the sequence of the 27 trigrams, which are valued from 0 to 27. Therefore, 13 is the 14th number of the sequence.

If we were to place the 14 trigram over the 13 trigram, the resulting number would be 391, which is the total number of 'words' in the text of Liber XXVII. (Here I count the smaller 21 trigram in verse 10 as a 'word', i.e., part of the narrative that is describing the 27 trigrams). So again we can see that combining 13 and 14 is directly related to Liber XXVII.

The number 1763 happens to be the value of the following:

Above, the gemmed azure is

The naked splendour of Nuit;

She bends in ecstasy to kiss

The secret ardours of Hadit.

The winged globe, the stary blue,

Are mine, O Ankh-af-na-khonsu!

This of course is the totality of verse 14 of the Book of the Law.

But this is more than a mere gematria-equivalence. Verse 14 is the first break in the Holograph, an interpolation of the Stele verses prepared beforehand by Crowley. This signifies that the bridge between 13 and 14 is a critical one, as evidenced by the numerical information given above. The value of verse 14 is the product of the 13th  and 14th prime numbers.

More curious still is that the total of words in the first 13 verses of the Law is 143. This is the gematria of 'The Book of the Law' as well as of 'Trigrammaton'. (Not to mention the sum of the numbers in the great Cipher of AL 2:76).

So at this juncture, where the dictation stops for a moment, we already have references to Liber XXVII, whose number is the sum of the verse numbers 13 and 14, and whose title is equivalent to the number of words dictated so far, as well as a reference to the Law itself because the 143 words also equal the title of that Book.  The inserted verse equals 1763, and this is the total number of words in Liber Ararita.

So the great grimoire that is the Law is already pointing to the theoretical and practical aspects of the qabalah that is necessary in the new Aeon.

143 = 11 x 13, the 5th and 6th prime numbers. Their interplay could be seen as a representation of the combining of the 5 and the 6, which is the agenda of the Great Work. This is made even more explicit in the text of verse 14, which concerns itself with the union of Nuit and Hadit.

  Nuit = 58

Hadit = 40

 total = 98

Their union can be considered as symbolic of the 'eight and ninety rules of art'. For ‘art’ can be considered as ART, Atu XIV, which depicts the Royal Marriage of Alchemy.  And the number of this Atu is also the total number of verses in each chapter of Liber Ararita.

So in effect, verse 14 of the Law represents the verses numbered 0 in Ararita, and thus also represents the number 0 which is the neutral axis formulating the 13 pairs of Antigrams. For 0 precedes all the Antigrams, and 0 precedes all the other 13 verses in the chapters of Ararita, and verse 14 of AL preceded the transmission by being composed before its arrival.

The total number of words in Ararita, 1763, plus the total number of words in XXVII, 391, sum to 2154. This number is very significant because it equals 3 x 718.

The gematria sum of the first 13 verses of the Law totals 6866. In base 3 this is represented as 100102022. Let us only consider the lower hexagram of this number, which is 305, (5 x 61).

As it happens, the number 1763 is represented as 2102022. Thus its lower hexagram is also 305. Therefore the gematria sum of verses 1 to 13 has the same lower hexagram as the gematria sum of verse 14.  This again combines the 13 and the 14.

305 = 5 x 61 = symbolically, 'the Ox and none by the Book'.

5 = V = Hierophant = Taurus; 61 = Ain = None.
